WAA Announces Partnership with Empire Beauty Schools
Through a new, exciting partnership with Empire Education Group, clients at the WAA shelter will have access to professional beauty services without the cost.
Philadelphia-area Empire schools have adopted the WAA shelter and will offer free cosmetology services to shelter clients. Additionally, proceeds generated from services and sales in Empire student salons on the National Day of Beauty (October 11, 2008) will benefit the shelter. Clients will also be eligible to receive scholarships from Empire.
As part of a nationwide anti-domestic violence campaign, Empire, which operates 87 cosmetology schools throughout the United States, will also adopt women’s shelters in the communities where its other schools are located. The corporation is also integrating Cut It Out, a domestic violence awareness training program, into its curriculum. Student cosmetologists will learn to recognize signs of abuse in their clients and become familiar with resources for domestic violence victims.
Empire worked with the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to coordinate the program.
